AirFlow

Self-aspirating surface aerator for the oxygenation and mixing of wastewater in lagoons and basins.

The AirFlow aerator is a self-aspirating floating system designed to provide deep oxygenation and homogeneous mixing of effluents in lagoons, basins or wastewater treatment plants. Its operation is based on a partially submerged nozzle equipped with a helical-profile propeller. As it rotates, the propeller generates a vortex effect: air is naturally drawn in through the tube, then converted into fine bubbles projected towards the bottom of the basin. This mechanism simultaneously creates a powerful horizontal flow that homogenises the effluent and eliminates dead zones, even in large lagoons or basins with complex shapes.

The AirFlow also stands out for its floating design, based on high-density polyethylene, HDPE, floats filled with expanded polystyrene beads to guarantee unsinkability, even in the event of cracking. This structure allows flexible installation:

  • As a floating suspended unit, ideal for lagoons or basins with variable water levels, such as ponds and natural lagooning systems.
  • On a fixed metal frame, for concrete basins or installations requiring increased stability.

BIOTRADE offers a complete AirFlow range, adapted to the various requirements of wastewater treatment plants.

  • Motor:
  • Nozzle and propeller:
    • 304L / 316L stainless steel nozzle with a 3-blade propeller, generating a self-aspirating vortex.
    • Inclination at 45° or 30°, depending on requirements.
  • Floats:
    • High-density polyethylene, HDPE, floats filled with expanded polystyrene beads for permanent buoyancy, even in the event of cracking.
    • Metal suspension frame with mooring by support arms and cables.
  • Support feet:
    • AirFlow support feet allow the turbine to rest on the geotextile membrane at the bottom of the lagoon without tearing it if the water level drops.
    • Power range from 2.2 to 22 kW.

  • Self-aspirating aeration: no compressor required, with energy savings thanks to the natural vortex effect.
  • Deep oxygenation: fine bubbles projected towards the bottom of the basin.
  • Horizontal mixing: eliminates dead zones.
  • Reduced maintenance: no gearbox and no submerged bearing.
  • Low noise level: < 55 dB at 10 m.
  • No aerosols or splashing.
  • Adaptability: floating installation for lagoons or fixed installation on a metal frame.
  • Medium-density polyethylene floats: providing good resistance to stress cracking, good resilience and good impact resistance.
  • Adjustable propeller: inclination at 45° or 30°, depending on the required flow direction.
  • Design focused on simple and safe packaging.
  • IP65 protection: suitable for humid or corrosive environments, ensuring reinforced motor sealing.
  • Mounting frame: allows installation on a walkway or existing structure, without additional civil engineering work.
  • Adapted materials: selected according to the operating environment.

What are the manufacturing lead times?

Our turbines are delivered within 8 to 10 weeks after order approval.

What maintenance is required?

Motor bearing greasing is required every 5 years. A visual inspection of the floats and mooring system should be carried out every year.

How is the floating turbine secured?

The floating turbine is held in place by a mooring system consisting of cables and a support arm. The assembly is fixed to the bank using fixing posts anchored onto concrete foundations.
