BioPress screw press

Equipment for the dewatering of municipal and industrial sludge by pressing.

Presse à vis BioPress BIOTRADE avec cuve de floculation pour la déshydratation des boues.

The BioPress BIOTRADE screw press is a piece of equipment designed to dewater municipal and industrial sludge through pressing.

It consists of a conical Archimedes’ screw and a drum formed by alternating fixed and moving discs. This design allows for the gradual compression of flocculated sludge to separate the water from the solid matter.

Unlike perforated drums, the disc-based drum is less prone to clogging. The movement of the discs as the screw rotates limits material buildup, while a nozzle-based washing system ensures thorough cleaning of the entire assembly.

The flocculated sludge is fed into the press chamber. A conical Archimedes screw gradually conveys the material through the disc drum.

As the material advances, the available space decreases, increasing the pressure exerted on the sludge. A back-pressure cone performs the final pressing before the dewatered sludge is discharged.

The extracted water is drained off as filtrate, while the dewatered sludge is directed toward the discharge hopper.

BIOTRADE markets various models of BioPress screw presses, sized according to the dry matter load to be processed and installation constraints.

The equipment can be manufactured from 304L or 316L stainless steel, featuring one or two pressing lines depending on the environment and site requirements.

  • Sludge dewatering via mechanical pressing.
  • Conical Archimedes’ screw.
  • Drum with fixed and moving discs to minimize clogging risks.
  • Integrated nozzle-based washing system.
  • Stainless steel structure.
  • Hinged, liftable cover for easy access and maintenance.
  • One or more low-speed gear motors, depending on the model.
  • Discharge hopper for dewatered sludge.
  • Connections for flocculated sludge inlet and filtrate outlet.

The BioPress range enables the dewatering of sewage sludge with capacities ranging from 10 to 150 kg DS/h, depending on the model and configuration.

What mass flow rates can the BioPress treat?

The BioPress can treat from 10 to 150 kg DS/h, depending on the model. The range covers both small wastewater treatment plants and larger industrial installations.

Can the BioPress operate 24 hours a day?

Yes, the BioPress is designed for 24/7 operation, making it suitable for continuous operation.

What is the advantage of the disc drum compared with a conventional perforated drum?

The disc drum, made up of alternating fixed and moving discs, is much less prone to clogging. The movement of the discs as the screw rotates naturally limits blockages, supported by a nozzle washing system.

What materials are available?

The BioPress is available in 304L or 316L stainless steel, depending on the environment and the nature of the sludge.

Does the BioPress require full-time operating staff?

No, it is simple to operate and requires limited operator presence. The equipment can be remotely supervised via a control panel with PLC.

What discharge options are available at the press outlet?

Several discharge solutions can be provided: custom hopper for force-feed pump, screw conveyor, belt conveyor or gravity discharge, depending on the site configuration.
