The BIOTRADE BioThick TBB drum thickener is designed for thickening municipal and industrial sludge.

It increases sludge concentration prior to processing by dewatering equipment, such as a screw press or centrifuge. This step optimizes the performance of downstream equipment.

The BioThick TBB is an enclosed unit designed to minimize odors and enhance operational safety. Its 304L or 316L stainless steel construction allows it to withstand the demanding environments associated with sludge treatment.

The operation of the BioThick TBB is based on dynamic liquid/solid separation within a rotating drum.

  • Feed: Flocculated sludge is fed into the thickening drum.
  • Separation: The perforated drum retains the solids, while the filtrate passes through the mesh.
  • Adjustment: The rotation speed and frame inclination allow the sludge residence time to be adjusted.
  • Cleaning: An intermittent spray-nozzle system keeps the mesh clean and minimizes the risk of clogging.
  • Enclosed drum thickener for municipal and industrial sludge.
  • Used upstream of sludge dewatering equipment.
  • Frame and drum made of 304L or 316L stainless steel.
  • Fully enclosed housing with odor control connection flange.
  • Variable rotation speed.
  • Adjustable frame inclination (default setting: 5°).
  • Drum length: 1,500 to 3,000 mm, depending on configuration.
  • Drum diameter: 400 to 900 mm, depending on required hydraulic flow rate.
  • Flow rates: 1 to 100 m³/h, depending on configuration and sludge type.
  • Intermittent self-cleaning system using spray nozzles.

The BioThick TBB range is designed to meet sludge thickening requirements prior to dewatering. Sizing depends on hydraulic flow rate, sludge characteristics, the target capture rate, and site installation constraints.

What types of sludge can the BioThick TBB treat?

The BioThick TBB is suitable for municipal sludge from wastewater treatment plants and for industrial sludge. A preliminary performance study can validate the achievable dry solids content according to the type of sludge.

What capture rate can be achieved?

The BioThick TBB achieves a capture rate greater than 92%.

What outlet concentration can be obtained?

The BioThick TBB can achieve an outlet concentration greater than 6%, approximately 60 g/L.

Is the BioThick TBB noisy or odorous?

No. Its fully enclosed design ensures odour containment thanks to an integrated deodorisation flange. It also limits noise nuisance compared with open systems.

How is the drum cleaned?

An intermittent self-cleaning system using washing nozzles keeps the mesh clean and maintains filtration capacity. Inspection hatches and side hatches make checks easier.

What flow rates are accepted?

Accepted flow rates range from 1 to 100 m³/h, depending on the drum configuration, with lengths from 1,500 to 3,000 mm and diameters from 400 to 900 mm.
